  1. Principles of Wilderness Survival:
    1. When you click on this link, you will be transported to an mp3 file (just under an hour) recorded by wilderness survival expert Tim Smith of the Jack Mountain Bushcraft organization. He covers the fundamental elements of what it takes to keep the human body alive in an emergency survival situation. Please:
      1. Use headphones and take notes on his lecture.
      2. Take detailed notes about what you need to know, what you need to do, and what you need to possess to physically survive an emergency.
      3. Listen to this lecture using headphones and work at your own pace. 
  2. Write an essay focusing on what you need to KNOW, DO, and CARRY in a survival situation. Read the directions and expectations for formatting below:
    1. Type your essay in Microsoft Word, Pages, or Google Docs.
    2. Use 12-point font size, Times New Roman, MLA.
    3. Double space!
    4. Create enough paragraphs (5) to get the job done. The minimum requirement follows the standard essay format outlined below:
      1. Introduction (Introduce Tim Smith and the topic of his lecture)
      2. Body 1 (What you need to know)
      3. Body 2 (What you need to do)
      4. Body 3 (What you need to carry)
      5. Conclusion (Your thoughts on the importance and relevance of this information/knowledge)
    5. Include a title
    6. Write a proper heading at the top of your paper:
      1. Name
      2. Date
      3. School name (ECCO)
      4. 4j ID #
