January 12-14, 2016 – Human Technology
We will treat this class as a job. You are a writer, researcher and publisher for your own independent blog and earn your keep by publishing relevant requested materials that explore important subjects and topics. The topic for today is essential technology.
Directions:
Create a post with the title “Human Technology” and answer the following questions with complete sentences, paragraphs, and links, in the body of your post. Bonus points for students who use images and take steps to make their post aesthetically attractive.
- In your own words, what is technology? How do you define it? What separates something that is considered technology from something that is not considered technology?
- How does Wikipedia define technology? Do you like the way they define technology? What do you like about it? What do you dislike about their definition?
- What are five examples of technology that you literally cannot live without? This is a very personal question, but it also extends to all of humanity as well.
- Please rate the following inventions, from least important to most important, and write a minimum of three sentences for each explaining why you rank this technology the way you do. Each technology example should begin with a topic sentence defining and explaining what the item is. There are eleven examples of technology to rank. Number 11 should be the least important whereas number 1 should be the most. If you do not know what something is,
- Book
- Hair straightener
- Personal computer
- Arrowhead
- Shoe
- Wheel
- Refrigerator
- Cellular phone
- Solar panel
- Forge
- Battery
- Once you are done with your list, I want you to write a paragraph explaining which three of these items you would not want to lose in an armageddon (end-of-the-world) situation. Be sure to justify each of your choices. You may also discuss why you would not choose certain other objects, even thought you may want to.
